Context
At Praktika, every learner starts by choosing a tutor—a digital guide
with a personality, accent, and way of speaking all their own. Learners can switch tutors at any time. With so many to choose from, the interface needs to help them find someone they feel comfortable learning with.
Insights
User behavior revealed a few clear patterns:
• Learners need to grasp the differences between tutors without reading long profiles.
• The decision happens in seconds, so the interface should
keep up with them.
• Extra screens interrupt the flow and create
more chances to drop off.
• Visual clutter distracts from what matters most:
the tutor's personality.
These findings shaped the redesign of the selection flow.
The original flow
I mapped the original journey to see where learners struggled. Although choosing a tutor sounds simple, it took several steps and repeated jumps between screens.
The diagram below shows how the original flow worked.
Learners started on a screen
with a list of tutors, but too little information to make a confident choice.
Comparing tutors meant repeating the same cycle several times.
Only then could they move on to their first lesson.
Going back took them all the way to the first screen.
After tapping a card,
they landed on a separate profile page with another long block of information.

The solution
1. Compact cards with the details that matter
I redesigned each card to convey a tutor's personality at a glance: accent, professional background, speaking style, and emotional tone.
The information is concise and easy to scan.
2. One-screen selection
I brought the entire flow onto one scrollable screen.
This removed unnecessary navigation, made tutors easier to compare,
and helped learners stay focused.
3. A clearer visual system
I removed visual noise, reset the hierarchy, and gave the selected card a subtle highlight. The eye moves naturally through the screen without competing distractions.
4. Room to grow into gamification
I added light indicators of a learner's growing relationship with a tutor—
a natural introduction to Friendship Points that needs no extra explanation.

Success metrics
• Funnel Conversion Rate — more learners reaching their first lesson.
• Time to Value (TTV) — less time between choosing a tutor
and starting to learn.
